Aldus is a man who demonstrates the use of Hint Coins, much like Stachenscarfen's role in the first trilogy of games, in Professor Layton and the Last Specter. He is a friendly, easy-going guy who hangs out in front of Paddy's Restaurant. He also gives Professor Layton a fossil to help them with their Collection minigame. He also appears at various points in Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask, playing the same role as he did in Last Specter.
Aldus wears a pink suit, lilac tie, white shirt, peach trousers and brown belt. He has dark hair and a mustache.
Chapter 1: The Mask of Chaos
When Professor Layton and the group begin to set out past Carnival Square to begin their investigations after the petrification miracle, they bump into Aldus, who claims it fate had made them meet again. He teaches the group how to zoom in to areas, as well as how to find Hint Coins, before he sets off again.
After visiting the Ledore Mansion and heading through Knickknack Alley, Aldus is heard hiding, requiring the group to use the zoom feature to find him. They locate him in an alley in the back, and he informs them of the Collection feature. He then tells them to go back to Carnival Square, as he had left something there for them, before once again setting off.
Chapter 5: Miracles Unmasked
Aldus meets Professor Layton and the group once again, commenting on how their meeting had lifted his spirits. After Layton completes his puzzle, he notes that he had brightened his evening, and was sure to brighten many more, before once again setting off.
Chapter 7: The Reunion Inn
Professor Layton and the group meet Aldus at the Reunion Inn, where he tells of the rumor that old friends would be able to meet here, and has seen that the rumor was true. Before they could head into the Reunion Inn, he wanted to check how many puzzles they had solved, and after doing so, he let them go straight through.
