The Dragonlord is a mythical being supposedly living in Hoogland, mentioned in the game Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy. He is the center of one of Hoogland's disturbing customs, as people in the village have lived in fear of him for generations.
The Dragonlord is said to be the cause of bringing unsettling winds across Hoogland, unbeknownst to the villagers that it is actually due to an Azran device located in the chapel becoming imbalanced, creating a countercurrent that flows against the main one. In a bid to appease the Dragonlord, the villagers offer a sacrifice in the form of a woman, marrying them off to him in the hopes that he would bless their village with fair winds. These wedding ceremonies would be held outside the chapel, where the bride would be locked in the chapel to be turned to wind. Women used these ceremonies to escape the village with the help of Beatrix; using a secret tunnel in the forest past Hoogland, she would enter the chapel with a spare change of clothing and help the brides escape, leading the male villagers to believe that the brides had been turned to wind.
In Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy, Romilda is the latest bride to be offered to the Dragonlord, much to her fiancé Julien's dismay. As she knew the true nature of this ritual, she wanted to prove to the villagers that the Dragonlord didn't care about his brides, leaving her to die in the chapel rather than turning to wind. Before she can give up her life however, Professor Layton and Professor Sycamore discover that the harsh winds were not caused by the wrath of the Dragonlord, but was however due to the Azran device contained in the chapel. With balance restored, the village was able to enjoy fair winds.
