Chapter 5: Miracles Unmasked
Professor Layton and the group approach Murphy to help him out, as he looked a little nervous. He tells them he is the bookkeeper for Henry Ledore and Alphonse Dalston, and blurts out that Dalston's business have been taking a turn for the worse. He continues on to say that Henry had founded Monte d'Or in the middle of the desert, and that the spot they were standing on used to be an oasis. Cutting to the important information, he tells the group that Dalston had taken a large nosedive since his arrest, and hence Henry could sit back in rake in the profits. Emmy asks if Henry's businesses would also suffer if the tourists were being scared away, however they had been flocking in, making his net profit increase by a lot. Before he could tell the exact number, Layton reminds him that was confidential information, and then concludes that Henry had gained in profits after Dalston's arrest, to which he confirms.
Chapter 7: The Reunion Inn
Professor Layton and the group find Murphy at Pumpkin Park, and he asked them if they wanted to know what was the latest in the world of economy. He reveals to Layton that Henry's fortune was quickly escalating, as people have been flocking to his establishments since Alphonse Dalston had been detained, to the point that one could say that Henry owned the entire city. Luke found this suspicious, as he had accused Dalston of being the suspect in the first place. Layton agrees, and asks Murphy who had financed the fairground. He reveals that Henry issues the permits for all construction projects, and has been pouring money into many new buildings, and then quickly leaves.
In a special episode, Drake, Pascal, and Gustav are all complaining that Murphy are letting their confidential financial matters slip to others. He soon turns up so that he can work on their accounts. He lets slip that Dalston had been doing well in the past month, investing in the One-Ring Circus, and that they had some competition.
The group find Murphy outside the racetrack, and he comments to Layton how he was happy that Henry's fortunes have been growing. He offered to help sort out Layton's finances, in order to make him rich, but Layton declines the offer as his finances didn't need managing.
"Nobody knows more about the city's economy and its residents' assets than accountant Murphy, but he's got some real problems with the notion of "client confidentiality". Just consider yourself fortunate if he hasn't already leaked the state of your finances to the entire city."
