[edit] Plot

Prologue [I]: On a Dark and Stormy Night
Carmine Accidenti is seen with Espella Cantabella, trying to escape from the witches in the park. They then make the statues in the park come to life, causing Carmine's car to be thrown in the tree. Carmine then instructs Espella to locate Professor Layton by the address on his letter, and so she escapes.

Layton and Luke later enter the park, to see Carmine's car in the tree. They notice a large handprint on the bonnet, but a Constable stops them before they can investigate any further. They then tell him that they had been given permission from Inspector Chelmey to investigate the scene, and after solving the Constable's puzzle, they continue to theorize on how the giant handprint had been left on the bonnet of the car. They notice a statue, whose hand was approximately the same size as the handprint, however with the handprint being left by a right hand and the statue holding a spear in its right hand, leaves the mystery unsolved. Layton and Luke then deduce that the statue could have moved, and could be related to the witch that kidnapped Espella, and so they decide to go back to Inspector Chelmey to question who was involved in the accident.
