Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
Ace Attorney series. The game was released on the Nintendo 3DS system and developed by LEVEL-5 and Capcom. The game initially released in Japan on November 29, 2012, and was later released in Europe on March 28, 2014, and in North America on August 29, 2014.
The games story is about Professor Hershel Layton and Phoenix Wright finding themselves in a different world, in a world where magic - supposedly - actually exists. They arrive in the medieval city Labyrinthia where "reality and illusions intertwine". This city is home to witches who hide in the shadows and has witnessed impossible phenomenon as of late. The city is under the control of a villain called the Storyteller whose power is that whatever he writes becomes reality.
Professor Layton will be faced with many new puzzles, whereas the one person that needs Phoenix Wright the most is currently under trial for Witchcraft.
The game has two main styles of gameplay; Adventure and Witch Trial, which both feature elements in their respective series of either Professor Layton or Ace Attorney. The game features voice acted animated cutscenes which is a staple in all Professor Layton series games, but a new feature for games in the Ace Attorney series.

During some segments of the game, players can navigate their way through areas of Labyrinthia, converse with characters, and examine background locations for clues to the mystery surrounding the plot of the game. The control mechanism used for this is similar to the one first introduced during Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask]] which differs slightly from the mechanic used in the Layton games before it. This involves during the arrow cursors to move the camera around the screen. Talking to characters that appear during these parts of the game can lead to clues being uncovered, puzzles being unlocked and other tasks for the players to complete. As per other Layton games, completing these puzzles rewards you with Picarats, the amount dependent on the amount of mistakes made during the puzzle. The Picarats earned during puzzles can be used to unlock various bonus content in the game. Also as per Layton games, investigating the background can lead to finding Hint Coins to help during particularly difficult puzzles.
 Witch Trial
The Witch Trials are the staple mechanic in the Ace Attorney series in which you take over as Phoenix Wright and cross-examine the evidence available to you in the form of a trial to defend the client in question. During these cross-examinations, Wright can press defendants for more details which can sometimes lead to new information being uncovered. The main formula in these segments is to look for contradictions evident in the testimonies given to the evidence and statements available. Should the player get the contradiction wrong, and it turns out to be true, they earn a strike against them. In this game, Wright finds he has to find contradictions in multiple statements simultaneously as he questions several defendants at once, looking for those statements that contradict each other. Part of this requires watching the reactions from other defendants as another reveals their statment. The Hint Coins that are found during the adventure parts of the game are also useable here, providing hints as to what the player must do to progress in the trial.
