The River Thames is a river located in London in the Professor Layton Series. The inspiration of the river comes from the real life River Thames that flows from Kemble, Gloucestershire to Southend-On-Sea, Essex, flowing through real life London.

[edit] Appearance

The River Thames is a large river that flows through London. In Professor Layton and the Unwound Future, a path runs along the river, surrounded by trees and greenery, with a flight of stairs leading down to the Riverside Area. A lighthouse can also be seen in the middle of the river. In Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, the riverside is sectioned off by a gate, and boats can be seen crossing the river. A bench and street lamp are located by the gate, and the Tower Bridge can be seen in the distance.

[edit] Plot

[edit] Professor Layton and the Unwound Future

The River Thames is interactive in Unwound Future, making appearances in London and Future London. In London, the river is only seen in a video clip whereas in Future London, the team have to cross it to get to Chinatown to continue their investigation. Near the River Thames is a restaurant named the Thames Arms which houses a show down and a Puzzle Battle later on in the game. On the north of the River, Dimitri Allen's Research Facility is seen here and a dome-like building. The dome-like building is guarded by Beacon and Ward is found in the tunnel that lies beneath the water.

During the end of the game, the river hosts the Mobile Fortress trying to destroy Future London. This is also where Clive gets arrested for plotting such evil plans.

[edit] Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva

Professor Layton visits near the River Thames to find out what actually stopped the Big Ben from ringing. Here, he comes across an Old Woman who is none other than Don Paolo in disguise. Professor Layton, Luke, Barton and Inspector Chelmey chase Don Paolo when he makes an escape over the river with a propeller powered umbrella.

[edit] Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney

Prologue [I]: On a Dark and Stormy Night
Professor Layton and Luke head to the Thames Riverside in pursuit of the witch that had kidnapped Espella Cantabella, to no avail. They notice Inspector Chelmey and Barton in the middle of a heated discussion, and decide to question them on what they were investigating. Inspector Chelmey reveals that an unusual accident had occurred in the park, leaving them stumped for clues. He invites Layton to investigate the site, and this leaves Layton to believe that the accident had to do with their own investigation.

Layton and Luke return to Inspector Chelmey and Barton after investigating the site, noting how unusual the accident really was. Layton queries if Carmine Accidenti was involved in the accident, taking Inspector Chelmey by surprise. Layton notes that he was a former student of his, while Inspector Chelmey tells him that they had their eye on him for regularly getting himself into dangerous situations. Asking if there was anything else unusual, Barton notes that strange people in Halloween costumes had been loitering around the Tower Bridge as Layton was investigating. Layton figures these people were the witches, and decide to make their way there before they escaped.
