The Witches' Court is a major location in Labyrinthia, seen in the game Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. Throughout the course of the game, several Witch Trials will be held here. Witches are sent to the Witches' Court to stand on trial for the crime of being a witch. If found guilty, they are sent to the flames for execution as punishment.

In the center of the room, the Defense and Inquisition stand across from each other. Unlike normal trials, more than one witness can appear at the witness stand giving their testimony at the same time as each other. The fire pit is located behind the witness stand, where the accused is held above in a small cage, which lowers into the pit.

[edit] Waiting Hall

The waiting hall is the place for those involved in a trial to wait before it begins. The second and fourth chapters begin with Phoenix Wright waiting in the hall, discussing the trials with either Maya Fey or Espella Cantabella.

The hall consists of a wooden bench, with a chained ball next to it. A chandelier hangs above the room, and a Labyrinthian flag hangs by the door. knights are constantly standing guard by the doors leading into the courtroom.

[edit] Inquisitors' Hall

The Inquisitors' Hall is the room used by Inquisitors, like an office of sorts. The main characters can often find either Darklaw or Zacharias Barnham here throughout the game.

The room consists of two desks on opposite rooms, one being tidy and other piled with books. A large statue is displayed at the back of the room, and many candelabras are placed around the room.

[edit] Deathknell Dungeon

Deathknell Dungeon is a cell located in the Witches' Court where those suspected of being a witch are sent for confinement. Espella Cantabella and Jean Greyerl are sent here during the game.

The cell's locked door contains a gap in which the prisoner can peer through to talk to visitors, while the cell itself contains a bed and a keg.

[edit] Fire Pit Mechanism

The Fire Pit Mechanism is the pit that is used to execute witches, located behind the witness stand in the courtroom. It is soon discovered, however, that the pit does not actually kill witches, but instead sends them through a path into the Eldwitch Woods.

The fire pit contains a large cage suspended by chains atop the pit, while it is controlled by a crank.

Chapter 3: The Great Witch
Espella Cantabella is first sent to Deathknell Dungeon after she confesses being the Great Witch Bezella, and is kept here temporarily where she is interrogated by Phoenix Wright and Maya Fey. It is here that she reveals the Storyteller is her father.

Chapter 5: A Taste of Despair
After Phoenix Wright, Luke and Espella Cantabella make their way into the court through a secret passage, they find themselves in Deathknell Dungeon to discover Jean Greyerl is being kept there after the second Witch Trial. She was sent here after it was revealed she was a witch, however wasn't sent to the flames as she hadn't used her magic to harm anyone. Wright and Luke question her, and afterwards she helps them gain access to the courtroom by drawing the Knights' attention away from their guarding posts.

Once arriving in the courtroom, the trio investigate the fire pit to figure out how it worked. Wright lowers the cage into the pit with Luke inside, and they discover the pit lead to a secret path into the Eldwitch Woods.
